Choosing floor lamps

A floor lamp is the cheapest way to fix a badly lit room, because it adds light where the ceiling cannot reach — a corner, a reading chair, the dark end of a sofa. No wiring, no electrician, no holes in the ceiling.

For reading, the bottom of the shade should sit at about eye level when seated, roughly 47 to 49 inches from the floor, and slightly behind the shoulder so the page is lit and the eye is not.

An arc lamp reaches over a sofa or table and does the job of a pendant in a room where hanging one is not an option — rented flats, concrete ceilings, or a seating layout that has not settled yet.

Floor Lamps — common questions

How tall should a floor lamp be for reading?

The bottom of the shade wants to sit near eye level when you are seated — about 47 to 49 inches from the floor for most chairs. Place it just behind and to the side of the shoulder.

Are floor lamps dimmable?

Yes, every LitMeUp fixture is dimmable as standard. Floor lamps ship with a switch on the cord or the body, and work with plug-in dimmers.

Do floor lamps come with bulbs?

Lamps ship ready to fit standard E27 bulbs unless the product page states otherwise. Choose a warm 2700K bulb for living rooms and bedrooms.
